Verse 1]
The house was still, the night was deep,
Two little kids were fast asleep,
Five years old and barely two,
Dreaming dreams like little ones do.
Then smoke rolled in like something mean,
An orange light began to scream,
Fire climbed the hallway walls,
Danger answered when it called.
[Verse 2]
Mom and Dad ran down the hall,
Heat too strong, they hit a wall,
Flames leapt high, no way to pass,
Time was moving far too fast.
Voices shaking, hearts in pain,
Calling through the smoke and flame,
Praying someone brave and true
Would come to rescue their precious two.
[Chorus]
The family’s Collie, with a heart so wide,
Fearless eyes and faithful pride,
Flew into action to save the night,
He moved deliberate, ignoring his plight.
Through the smoke, into the pain,
Stronger than a burning flame,
Rusty the Collie marched firm and strong,
He knew the firemen would take too long.
[Verse 3]
He barked to wake them, then pulled them low,
Kept them where the cool air goes,
Tiny hands held tight to fur,
Trusting every step with him sure.
Back again he ran inside,
Fire roaring at his side,
Till both kids stood in open air,
Alive because he’d dared to care.
[Chorus]
The family’s Collie, with a heart so wide,
Fearless eyes and faithful pride,
Flew into action to save the night,
He moved deliberate, ignoring his plight.
Through the smoke, into the pain,
Stronger than a burning flame,
Rusty the Collie marched firm and strong,
He knew the firemen would take too long.
[Bridge]
No shiny badge, no grand parade,
Just paw prints where the fire stayed,
But every breath those children take
Is proof of the choice that hero made.
[Final Chorus]
There was a dog with a heart so wide,
Love and courage side by side,
When hope felt lost and time was gone,
He proved that heroes still live on.
Through the smoke, into the pain,
Braver than the burning flames,
Rusty the Collie, forever named
The bravest heart that faced the flames.
[Outro]
Now bedtime stories softly say
How love once lit a burning way,
And every night those children sleep
Safe because one dog went deep.
