Racing the Wind

By Craig Whitley
0:00 / -0:00

[Verse 1]

Tires scream on the blacktop road

Dust kicks up where the wild winds go

Texas in the mirror

My past on fire

The sheriff’s sirens wail and whine

His wife’s old locket still hangs on mine

Every mile

The stakes get higher

[Chorus]

Racing the wind

Chasing the night

Leaving the ghosts of a barroom fight

Gangs

The law

And a love gone blind

Racing the wind to leave Texas behind

[Verse 2]

Ex-wife’s curse still rings in my ears

Her whiskey laugh

Her crocodile tears

She said I’d burn

I’m halfway there

Crooked sheriff with a loaded gun

Swore revenge when I stole his fun

But I’m a gambler who doesn’t scare

[Chorus]

Racing the wind

Chasing the night

Leaving the ghosts of a barroom fight

Gangs

The law

And a love gone blind

Racing the wind to leave Texas behind

[Bridge]

Gunshots echo my pulse won’t slow

Every mile’s a battle every turn’s a foe

Her perfume lingers like a brand on my skin

But I won’t stop I’m racing the wind

Crooked sheriff with blood in his eyes

“I’ll kill him if I catch him!” he cries

I’m running on empty and out of time.

[Chorus]

Racing the wind

Chasing the night

Leaving the ghosts of a barroom fight

Gangs

The law

And a love gone blind

Racing the wind to leave Texas behind

[Outro]

His siren wails my engine screams

Freedom’s close but it’s a dream
