[violins intro]

[Verse 1] [male voice]

I don’t know where this is going,

But I sure know what I am hoping,

‘Cause it sure feels like love to me,

And I hope it’s for eternity.

[Verse 2] [male voice]

We were young when we first met,

A blind date on an old friend’s bet.

It was clear we were meant to be,

From our first kiss in Tennessee.

[Verse 3] [male voice]

By the next week you were gone,

With your parents to another home.

Uncle Sam took me away that day,

To a desert nation so far away.

[Verse 4] [rising intensity] [male voice]

With missiles flying high overhead,

I’d dream of you from my Army bed.

Then came the news you’d run away,

Married a rocker by the name of Clay.

[Powerful Chorus] [male voice]

What was I supposed to do,

Live a life feeling sad and blue?

I promised myself I’d go back and fight,

And be there for you when it was right.

[Verse 5] [male voice]

My world was shattered, all torn apart,

Knowing another had stolen your heart.

The very thought of losing you,

Consumed my soul and made me blue.

[Verse 6] [female voice]

Many years have passed us by,

We’re no longer young, but let us try.

Let’s forget that time has passed,

Rekindle a love that will always last.

[Verse 7] [female voice]

Roll back the clock and pick back up,

Where we left off in that pickup truck.

We’ll build new memories made of gold,

Holding hands while we grow old.

[Verse 8] [rising intensity] [male voice]

We’ll plant our feet in Tennessee,

Where we first met and were meant to be.

We’ll buy a house with a front porch swing,

I’ll never leave you if you wear my ring.

[Powerful Chorus] [male voice]

What was I supposed to do,

Live a life feeling sad and blue?

I promised myself to go back and fight,

And be there for you when it was right.

[Verse 9] [female voice]

I know our love is forever strong,

Forget the past and what went wrong,

Make new memories, erase the past,

Let’s build a love that will always last.

[Verse 10] [female voice]

Beating hearts now merged together,

Cleared the skies of all stormy weather.

I’m move on now consumed with emotion,

Mesmerized by your love potion.

[Verse 11][rising intensity] [male voice]

We won’t focus on what went wrong,

Instead we’ll build a happy home.

Creating a beautiful family,

Making girls like you and boys like me.

[Final Chorus] [Powerful Chorus] [male voice]

What was I supposed to do,

Live a life feeling sad and blue?

I promised myself to go back and fight,

And be there for you when it was right.
