Verse 1
Why am I working at this place,
What was I thinking at the time,
I’m just another rat in this crazy race,
Showing up daily to make a dime.
Verse 2
This ain’t me, or who I planned to be,
I took a chance on love and a leap of faith,
Now I’m stranded in a factory by the sea,
Her old man’s prisoner, arriving at eight.
Chorus
But I’ll keep pushing, I’ll find my way,
Through the grease and the grind, I’ll seize the day,
For her love, I’ll fight, I’ll make him see,
I’m more than a worker in a factory by the sea.
Verse 3
I can’t stand him, and he can’t stand me,
We stay nice for her, but how long can this last,
My love may be blind, but I’m not crazy,
I can’t win with him calling me lazy.
Chorus
But I’ll keep pushing, I’ll find my way,
Through the grease and the grind, I’ll seize the day,
For her love, I’ll fight, I’ll make him see,
I’m more than a worker in a factory by the sea.
Verse 4
One late night, I fixed a broken line,
Saved the factory from a costly delay,
Her old man watched, saw the spark in my grind,
His scowl softened, just a bit that day.
Chorus
And I’ll keep pushing, I’ll find my way,
Through the grease and the grind, I’ll seize the day,
For her love, I’ll fight, I’ll make him see,
I’m more than a worker in a factory by the sea.
Verse 5
Now he calls me to his office, sits me down,
Says, “Son, you’ve got heart, you’ve earned your place,”
Hands me the keys to a new job in town,
A promotion, a smile, and a nod to my face.
Chorus
Yeah, I kept pushing, I found my way,
Through the grease and the grind, I seized the day,
For her love, I fought, and now he sees,
I’m more than a worker in a factory by the sea.
