Dakota in Mourning

[verse 1]

Weeping in pain, she stood and cried,

At her feet, a King had died.

She would have warned him, but had no choice,

Dakota was born without a voice.

[verse 2]

The King of Rhyme lay at her feet,

Collapsed and bleeding, shot on the street.

CALL AN AMBULANCE!!!!, his widow shouted that night,

While Dakota stood motionless in silent fright.

[verse 3]

Dakota’s pain could not be heard or seen,

It was there nonetheless, or so it seemed.

The King had chosen her for safe refuge,

But now he laid before her in bloody deluge.

[verse 4]

Dakota still remembers that horrible night,

Though she never utters a word or cries aloud in fright.

Knowing her place in history will always be tied,

To the place and day where John Lennon died.

[chorus]

Mark David Chapman did a horrible thing,

Pulling the trigger that murdered our King,

His excuses were empty, pathetic and lame,

He craved the spotlight and relished the fame.

[verse 5]

So many tears were shed the next day,

Mourners gathered quietly with little to say,

Loss for words, struggling with their newborn grief,

Each tear shed like a fallen leaf.

[verse 6]

Central Park birds perched quiet and still,

Mourning a King’s death in the December chill.

How many days and how many mornings,

Will we crave to hear him, always yearning.

[verse 7]

Life goes on but it’s not the same,

Dakota stands silent in sun and rain.

Shedding invisible tears, throughout these years,

Still mute and shaken by that night of fears.

[verse 8]

The world remembers Dakota for that brutal day,

Gone are the good times when the King would say,

Dakota, I love you my beautiful queen,

My home forever, so calm and serene.

[chorus]

Mark David Chapman did a horrible thing,

Pulling the trigger that murdered our King,

His excuses were empty, pathetic and lame,

He craved the spotlight and relished the fame.

[outro]

His excuses were empty, pathetic and lame,

He craved the spotlight and relished the fame.
